Sometimes medication can help, and other times referral to Specialist’s counselling works as well or better. Your doctor may offer you a GP Mental Health Care Plan, this will make it more affordable to see a psychologist. This Care Plan can be reviewed every three months.

 

For Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, events in the past can also affect social and emotional wellbeing. These include loss of lands, the impact of the Stolen Generations, separation from culture and identity and general level of disadvantage experienced by some Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

a) Children between ages of 0 and 14 years
b) Adults between the ages of 15 and 54 years

The following categories of health assessments could be undertaken by a medical practitioner with the support of a practice nurse in accordance with the Department of Health, the following health checks could be performed for:

• 45-49 years who are at risk of developing a chronic disease
• a type 2 diabetes risk evaluation for people aged 40-49 years with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes as determined by the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool
• a comprehensive medical assessment for permanent residents of residential aged care facilities
• a health assessment for people with an intellectual disability
• a health assessment for refugees and other humanitarian entrants
• ATSI Health Checks
• Heart Health Checks; and
• Annual Health Check for 75 years and over
